Indians lose to East Laurens, Dublin

The Dodge County High Indians basketball team went on the road to face the top two teams in their sub-region last week and lost both games. The Indians lost 74-57 to East Laurens on Tuesday, January 27 and 84-49 to the number one ranked Dublin Irish on Friday, January 30. The Indians are now 3-7 in the sub-region and are fifth place in the sub-region at this point and could be tied for fourth, if Toombs loses to Dublin on Friday. The Region 3AA tournament will be held on February 17-21 at Southeast Bulloch High School.

The Indians held a 16-13 lead over East Laurens after one quarter led by Telvin Strutchens with nine points in the quarter. The Falcons outscored Dodge 18-11 in the second quarter to take a 31-27 lead at the half.  Jermayne Hamilton and Cyprin Burse each had four points in the second to lead the Indians. East Laurens extended their lead over Dodge to 54-39 after three quarters. Burse had four points for Dodge in the third. East Laurens outscored the Indians 20-18 in the final quarter but kept their lead and the victory 74-75. Burse again led with six points in the final quarter. Final scoring for Dodge against East Laurens was: Cyprin Burse, 17 points; Telvin Strutchens, nine points; Jermayne Hamilton, nine points; Leonard Floyd, eight points; Calvin Nash, five points; Javarris Gordon, four points; Tamius Lemon, three points; Gregory Butler, two points.

Dodge trailed Dublin 24-10 after one quarter in last Friday’s matchup. Dodge was led by Leonard Floyd with four points in the quarter. Dodge was outscored 20-17 in the second quarter and trailed 44-27 at the half. Telvin Strutchens led the Indians with nine points in the second. The Indians outscored the Irish 14-12 in the third quarter and was led by Herschel Anderson with five points in the quarter. Anderson again led Dodge with six points in the final quarter as Dublin pulled away with the victory 84-49. Final scoring for the Indians against Dublin was: Herschel Anderson, 18 points; Telvin Strutchens, 14 points; Leonard Floyd, six points; Jermayne Hamilton, three points; Tamius Lemon, three points; Calvin Nash, three points; Cyprin Burse, two points.

The Indians travel to Screven County on Friday, February 6 before returning home for their final regular season games against Hawkinsville, on Tuesday, February 10 and West Laurens on Friday, February 13 for Senior Night.
