Indians win over Bleckley, SEB

The Dodge County High Indians basketball team won two of three games last week as they defeated Bleckley County 69-51 on Tuesday, January 21 and Southeast Bulloch 46-45 on Saturday, January 24 and lost to Vidalia 50-31 on Friday, January 23.  The Indians are now tied for third in the sub-region with a 3-5 record.

On Tuesday, Jermayne Hamilton led the Indians with six points in first quarter as they trailed Bleckley 17-9.  Dodge outscored the Royals 17-14 in the second quarter to tighten the score at 31-26 at the half. Leonard Floyd and Javarris Gordon scored seven and five respectively to lead Dodge in the quarter.  The Indians outscored the Royals 24-7 in the third quarter to take a 50-38 lead behind eight points from Telvin Strutchens. Dodge continued to dominate in the fourth quarter as they outscored Bleckley 19-13 in the final quarter to take the sub-region victory 69-51. Final scoring for the Indians against Bleckley was: Telvin Strutchens, 18 points; Leonard Floyd, 15 points; Jermayne Hamilton, 13 points; Javarris Gordon, 12 points; Cyprin Burse, six points; Herschel Anderson, three points; Tamius Lemon, two points.

The Indians trailed 8-5 after one quarter in Vidalia on Friday. Leonard Floyd had three points and Telvin Strutchens added two. Dodge trailed 21-17 at the half as Cyprin Burse led the Indians with five points in the second quarter.  Vidalia outscored Dodge 16-8 in the third quarter to take a 37-25 lead. Strutchens lead with five points in the quarter.  The final quarter saw Vidalia pull away with a 50-31 win as they outscored Dodge 13-6. Final scoring for the Indians against Vidalia was: Telvin Strutchens, 10 points; Jermayne Hamilton, nine points; Cyprin Burse, seven points; Leonard Floyd, three points; Herschel Anderson, 2 points.

Southeast Bulloch took a 19-10 lead over Dodge in the first quarter on Saturday. Jermayne Hamilton and Telvin Strutchens each scored a three-pointer in the quarter.  The Indians outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-5 in the second quarter to take their first lead of the game 26-24 at the half. Leonard Floyd scored eight straight points to begin the quarter and Strutchens had six to lead in the quarter. Dodge outscored Southeast Bulloch 16-11 in the third quarter and held a 40-35 lead after three. The Yellow Jackets outscored Dodge 10-6 in the final quarter but Jermayne Hamilton hit two key free throws with 3 seconds left to help the Indians hold off the Jackets by a score of 46-45. Final scoring for the Indians against Southeast Bulloch was: Telvin Strutchens, 16 points; Leonard Floyd, 14 points; Tamius Lemon, seven points; Jermayne Hamilton, five points; Herschel Anderson, two points; Cyprin Burse, two points.

The Indians were scheduled to travel to East Laurens on Tuesday, January 27 and then to Dublin on Friday, January 30 for two key sub region games.
