Indians suffer tough losses in
holiday tourney

The Dodge County High
Indians basketball team participated in the Jeff Davis Holiday Classic over the
Christmas holidays. The Indians lost three tough games in the tournament that
was held Saturday December 27 through Tuesday, December 30. They lost to
Fitzgerald, 54-43; Jeff Davis, 63-61, in overtime; and Appling County,
63-30.
Then on Saturday, January 3
the Indians traveled to participate in the inaugural New Year’s Jamboree
Invitational at Darton College in Albany. Dodge faced the AAAA Hardaway Hawks
at 11:30 that morning. The Indians
jumped out to 7-0 lead over Hawks, before the Hawks outscored the Indians 17-7 to
lead 17-14 after one quarter. Leonard Floyd and Cyprin Burse led Dodge with
five points each in the quarter. Hardaway extended their lead over the Indians
to 34-25 at halftime. Floyd again led the Indians with four points in the
quarter.
The Indians outscored the
Hawks 15-14 in the third quarter but still trailed 58-40. Laquan Hogue led
Dodge with six points in the quarter. Dodge continued to cut into Hardaway’s
lead in the fourth quarter by outscoring them 20-12. The Indians cut the lead
to eight points but could not get any closer as they lost 70-60. Floyd led the Indians with seven points in
the final quarter.
Final scoring for the
Indians against Hardaway was: Leonard Floyd, 18 points; Cyprin Burse, 12
points; Laquan Hogue, 11 points; Telvin Strutchen, nine points; Herschel
Anderson, seven points; Javarris Gordon, three points.
In the Jeff Davis holiday
tournament in Hazlehurst the final scoring for the Indians against Fitzgerald
on Saturday, December 27 was: Cyprin Burse, 20 points; Jermayne Hamilton, 12
points; Telvin Strutchen, five points; Herschel Anderson, two points; Leonard
Floyd, two points; Calvin Nash, two points. The final scoring for the Indians
against Jeff Davis on Monday, December 29 was: Cyprin Burse, 20 points;
Herschel Anderson, 12 points; Laquan Hogue, 12 points; Jermayne Hamilton, 10
points; Leonard Floyd, three points; Telvin Strutchen, three points; Calvin
Nash, one point. The final scoring for the Indians against Appling County on
Tuesday, December 30 was: Herschel Anderson, eight points; Telvin Strutchen,
six points; Cyrpin Burse, five points; Laquan Hogue, five points; Leonard
Floyd, three points; Curtis Rushing, two points; Jermayne Hamilton, one point.
The Indians get back into
their region schedule as they hosted Vidalia on Tuesday, January 6. The Indians
will also host East Laurens on Friday, January 9 and Dublin on Tuesday, January
13. All games begin at 6:00 p.m.
