Squaws win three region matchups

The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the region with three wins over region teams this past week.  The Squaws defeated Toombs County 58-26 on Tuesday, December 9 and then traveled to Bleckley County on Friday, December 13 and defeated the Lady Royals 40-29 and traveled to Swainsboro on Saturday, December 14 to defeat the Lady Tigers 58-45. The Squaws also jumped up from number nine in the GASports.com/GACA Coaches Poll to number six last week.

In Tuesday’s game with Toombs County, Dodge led 15-9 after one quarter behind five points from Tahitia Butler. Butler led the Squaws to a halftime lead of 31-16 as she added six more points in the second quarter.  Michelle Mitchell had four points in the third as Dodge led 47-24.  The Squaws outscored the Lady Bulldogs 11- 2 in the final quarter to take the 58-26 region victory. Final scoring for the Squaws against Toombs County was: Tahitia Butler, 18 points; Nisha Walker, 14 points; Michelle Mitchell, eight points; Kemiya Harrell, six points;  Staci Ross, four points; Janna Anderson, three points; Yalesia Burns, two points; Jaye Hilliard, two points; Courtni Howard, two points.

On Friday night the Squaws traveled to Cochran to take on the Lady Royals of Bleckley County High. Nisha Walker scored the first nine points of the game for Dodge and the Squaws led 11-4 after one quarter. Yalesia Burns scored four points in the second quarter as Dodge extended their led to 23-11 at the half. The Squaws outscored Bleckley 13-9 in the third quarter behind four points from Kemiya Harrell.  The Squaws were outscored 9-4 in the fourth quarter but held on to their lead to beat Bleckley 40-29. Final scoring for the Squaws was: Nisha Walker, nine points; Tahitia Butler, eight points; Michelle Mitchell, eight points; Kemiya Harrell, six points; Yaleisa Burns, four points; Staci Ross, four points; Janna Anderson, three points.

The Squaws hit the road again on Saturday night to take on the Lady Tigers of Swainsboro. Dodge led 13-6 after one quarter. Tahitia Butler had seven points in the quarter.  Michelle Mitchell and Yalesia Burns each had four points in the second quarter to lead the Squaws to 26-18 halftime lead.  Dodge extended their lead to 41-29 over the Lady Tigers in the third quarter led by Butler’s six points. Butler scored nine points and Nisha Walker scored six to lead the Squaws in the fourth quarter. The Squaws took another region victory 58-45. Final scoring for the Squaws was: Tahitia Butler, 22 points; Nisha Walker, 11 points; Michelle Mitchell, eight points; Yalesia Burns, eight points; Janna Anderson, five points; Kemiya Harrell, two points; Staci Ross, two points.

The Squaws were scheduled to travel to West Laurens on Tuesday, December 16 for a non-region game before returning home on Friday, December 19 to host Appling County and Saturday, December 20 to host Jefferson County. All games begin at 6:00 p.m.
