Dodge Squaws move to 8-0 with three wins and are now ranked second in the state in AA

The Dodge County Squaws improved their record to 8-0 and 2-0 in the sub-region with wins over West Laurens, Appling County and Jefferson County last week. The Squaws also moved up from number six to number two in last week’s GASports.com/GACA Coaches Poll. The Squaws defeated West Laurens 59-37 on Tuesday, December 16 in Dublin and then defeated Appling County 57-38 at home on Friday, December 19 and Jefferson County, 66-50 on Saturday, December 20.

The Squaws took control early in the first quarter of a non-region game against West Laurens by outscoring the Lady Raiders 20-8. Nisha Walker led in the quarter with six points. Kemiya Harrell followed with five points in the quarter. The Lady Raiders cut into Dodge’s lead a little in the second quarter as the Squaws led 33-16 at the half. Michelle Mitchell led in the second quarter with four points. The Lady Raiders opened the third quarter on 8-2 run and outscored Dodge 12-6 in the third as the Squaws still lead 39-28. Dodge dominated again the in the fourth quarter as the Squaws outscored West Laurens 20-8. Mitchell led with nine points in the final quarter. Final scoring for the Squaws was: Michelle Mitchell, 17 points; Tahitia Butler, 11 points; Nisha Walker, 11 points; Kemiya Harrell, 10 points; Janna Anderson, six points; Staci Ross, two points; Yalesia Burns, two points.

On Friday, the Squaws hosted Appling County in another non-region match-up. Dodge trailed 12-9 after one quarter. Michelle Mitchell led with five points in the quarter. The Squaws outscored the Lady Pirates, 16-5 in the second quarter behind Nisha Walker’s six points. Dodge extended their lead 45-26 after three quarters. Walker had eight points to lead the Squaws in the third quarter. Kemiya Harrell scored five points in the final quarter as both team scored 12 points each. The Squaws took the victory 57-38. Final scoring for the Squaws against Appling County was: Michelle Mitchell, 19 points; Nisha Walker, 19 points; Janna Anderson, six points; Tahitia Butler, six points; Kemiya Harrell, five points; Staci Ross, two points.

The Squaws held a slim 10-7 lead over the Lady Warriors of Jefferson County in the first quarter of a region cross-over game on Saturday, December 21. Michelle Mitchell led with six points in the quarter. Dodge doubled their lead to 26-20 in the second quarter. Kemiya Harrell led with six points in the second. The Squaws pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Warriors 24-9 in the third quarter. Tahitia Butler, Nisha Walker and Harrell each had six points in the quarter. Dodge kept their lead at 66-50 to take the victory.  Butler led with seven points in the final quarter. Final scoring for the Squaws was: Tahitia Butler, 19 points; Michelle Mitchell, 15 points; Kemiya Harrell, 14 points; Nisha Walker, eight points; Janna Anderson, six points and Staci Ross, two points.

The Squaws were scheduled to travel to Hazlehurst on Saturday, December 27, Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30 to participate in the Jeff Davis Holiday Tournament. The Squaws will travel to Darton College in Albany to participate in a New Year’s Shootout on Saturday, January 3 where they will play last year’s AAA State Champion Kendrick at 7:00 p.m. The Squaws return home on Tuesday, January 6 to host Vidalia in what will be a battle between the number one and number two teams in the state in AA.
