Squaws win; Indians split with Devils, Raiders

The Dodge County High School Squaws and Indians basketball teams ended their regular season schedule with two non-region games at home last week. The fourth ranked Squaws (22-3) defeated Hawkinsville on Tuesday, February 10 by a score of 61-41 and then defeated West Laurens on Friday, February 13 by a score of 53-33. The Indians defeated Hawkinsville, 62-52 on then lost to West Laurens, 61-52.
On Tuesday, the Squaws jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter over Hawkinsville. Tahitia Butler led Dodge with nine points in the quarter. The Squaws extended their lead over the Lady Devils to a 36-14 halftime score. Janna Anderson and Kemiya Harrell each had six points to lead the Squaws in the second quarter. Anderson hit two more three-pointers in the third quarter to lead Dodge to a 52-31 lead after three. Butler put in seven points in the final quarter to help propel the Squaws to a 61-41 win over the Lady Red Devils. Final scoring for the Squaws against Hawkinsville was: Tahitia Butler, 20 points; Janna Anderson, 15 points; Kemiya Harrell, 12 points; Nisha Walker, eight points; Yaleisa Burns, six points. The Squaws led 12-7 over the Lady Raiders of West Laurens after one quarter on Friday. Nisha Walker led in the quarter with five points. Tahitia Butler and Janna Anderson each had three points in the second quarter as the Squaws led 24-15 at the half. Dodge outscored West Laurens 18-10 in the third quarter to lead 42-25 after three. Walker led the Squaws with eight points in the third. Butler led Dodge with four points in the final quarter to help the Squaws take the win 53-33. Final scoring for the Squaws against West Laurens was: Nisha Walker, 17 points; Tahitia Butler, 13 points; Kemiya Harrell, 10 points; Janna Anderson, eight points; Yaleisa Burns, five points.
The Indians trailed Hawkinsville 17-8 after one quarter on Tuesday. Telvin Strutchens led Dodge with four points in the quarter. Dodge outscored the Red Devils 18-5 in the second quarter to take a 26-22 lead at the half. Leonard Floyd led the Indians with six points in the quarter. The Indians extended their lead to 43-36 after three quarters. Floyd led again with eight points in the third. Dodge outscored Hawkinsville 19-16 in the final quarter to take the win 62-52. Telvin Strutchens led Dodge with seven points in the quarter and Herschel Anderson followed with six. Final scoring for the Indians against Hawkinsville was: Leonard Floyd, 18 points; Telvin Strutchens, 16 points; Herschel Anderson, 10 points; Tamius Lemon, nine points; Jermayne Hamilton, five points; Cyprin Burse, four points. Dodge trailed West Laurens 18-11 after one quarter on Friday. Leonard Floyd had four points to lead the Indians in the quarter. Jermayne Hamilton had five points in the second as the Indians could not gain any ground on the Raiders and still trailed 30-23 at the half. The Raiders extended their lead over the Indians to 49-37 after three quarters. Dodge outscored the Raiders 15-12 in the final quarter but could get no closer than the final score of 61-52. Final scoring for the Indians against West Laurens was: Leonard Floyd, 15 points; Cyprin Burse, 10 points; Jermayne Hamilton, nine points; Tamius Lemon, nine points; Calvin Nash, five points; Telvin Strtuchens, two points and Herschel Anderson, two points.
