Squaws knock off top ranked Vidalia

The Dodge County High School Squaws basketball team improved their record to 13-1 and 4-0 in the sub-region as they knocked off the undefeated and number one ranked Vidalia Lady Indians on Tuesday, January 6 by a score of 64-59 and then defeated the East Laurens Lady Falcons 64-41 on Friday, January 9. With the wins the Squaws moved up to number two in the Georgia Sports Writer Association Poll behind Buford.

Vidalia took a 23-15 lead over after one quarter of play.  Nisha walker led Dodge with 11 points in the quarter.  Walker again led the Squaws with 13 points in the second quarter as Dodge outscored Vidalia 19-13 to cut into the Vidalia lead and only trailed 36-34 at the half. Tahitia Butler scored 10 straight points in the last three minutes of the third quarter as Dodge outscored the Lady Indians 20-18 to tie the score at 54-54. Janna Anderson and Butler each scored four points in the final quarter as Dodge outscored Vidalia 10-5 to take the hard fought sub-region victory 64-59.

Final scoring for the Squaws against Vidalia was: Nisha Walker, 27 points; Tahitia Butler, 20 points; Janna Anderson, seven points; Kemiya Harrell, four points; Michelle Mitchell, four points; Yaleisa Burns, two points.

The Squaws opened up their game with East Laurens with 16-0 run and led 17-7 after one quarter. Janna Anderson led Dodge with two three-pointers in the quarter. Michelle Mitchell added five points.  Dodge extended their lead in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Falcons 9-3 to lead 26-10 at halftime.  Kemiya Harrell had five points in the quarter to lead the Squaws. East Laurens outscored the Squaws 10-9 in the third quarter. Dodge led 35-20 after three quarters. Michelle Mitchell led with four points in the quarter.  Nisha Walker and Tahitia Butler put in 12 and 10 points respectively in final quarter to propel the Squaws to a 64-41 sub-region victory.

Final scoring for the Squaws against East Laurens was:  Nisha Walker, 23 points; Tahitia Butler, 13 points; Michelle Mitchell, 11 points; Kemiya Harrell, 10 points; Janna Anderson, six points; Courtni Howard, one point.

The Squaws have three important games scheduled this week as they host Dublin on Tuesday, January 13 and then travel to Toombs County on Friday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. and to Laney of Augusta on Saturday, January 14 at 5:00 p.m.  The Squaws return home Tuesday, January 20 against Bleckley County at 6:00 p.m.
